- The Persian Empire wants more power and land. The Sparta and Athens empires do not want to allow them to have power over them.
- The Persian Empire is the largest empire in the world ruled by Darius. They had a very large army that was ready to take over Greece. However, they were defeated at the Battle of Marathon.
- Darius dies and his son takes over power. He assembles the largest ever army to invade Greece to avenge their defeat. An alliance is formed to defend Greece and Athens builds a massive navy.
- For seven days, the Sparta King Leonidas and the Spartans hold off the Persians. Eventually, all of them were killed. Athens was evacuated and after the Battle of Salamis, the Athenians were victorious.
- Because of the war, Sparta was weakened and Athens became the most powerful city. This caused tension between them and the Peloponnesian War started.
- After a plague and fighting for a long time, Sparta defeated the Athens in battle. The Athens people began to stave and surrendered because they did not have a army to battle anymore. Sparta took over the Athenian Empire.
