- Two men arrive at Atticus' house informing them that his client Tom Robinson was being taken to the jail to spend the night before his trial begins..
- Heck: Nobody around here is up to anything. I'm just worried about the Ol' Sarum Bunch
- Link Deas: We're movin' him to county jail tonight. I'm not looking for trouble but don't expect there to be none when he gets there.
- Atticus: Don't be foolish Heck. This is Maycomb.
- Atticus: Those were our friends son,there ain't any gangs in Maycomb.
- After Atticus returned inside the children sit around his chair and ask him about who those men were. They were worried the men were from a gang and wanted to hurt Atticus.
- Jem: Who were those men Atticus? Was that a gang?
- It's late at night and Atticus is at the police station where Tom Robinson is being held before the trial. Two unknown men arrive and try to take Tom but Atticus doesn't let them in. Jem, Dill and Scout snuck out to see where Atticus went.
- Unknown man: You know what we want. Move aside from the door.
- Atticus: Yes, he is in there. He is asleep don't wake him up. Heck Tate should be here very soon so you better leave.
- Unknown man 2: We lead him and his boys on a snipe hunt deep in the woods.
