  • This scene shows Holden's self-isolation, as he feels displaced and disconnected from the adult world. It also allows us to understand Holden's raw violent emotions, showing his inability to cope in a positive way. This links to the themes of self-isolation as a form of protection. Garage symbolises a storage escape, where he is storing away his memories and preserving them, keeping them safe from the phony world.
