Storyboard Tekst
- In 499 BC the Ionian Greeks were ruled by Persia. The Ionians revolted and fought back against Persia which caused king Darius to get mad.
- The battle of Marathon started after King Darius decided to invade. He came by sea and the Greeks were waiting for him. While the fight was happening they sent a messenger named Pheidippides to bring word to Athens so they could prepare for the invasion. Pheidippides ran 24 miles to Athens and delivered the message, allowing the athenians to prepare. The Greeks won this battle ending the first Persian war.
- After the death of King Darius the next king King Xerxes decided to try to finish what Darius started. the battle of Thermopylae was a battle where the spartans held off the Persians from Athens so that they could prepare for war. They were heavily outnumbered but they still held them off for a while before being defeated.
- Greek ships were smaller than Persian warships making them more maneuverable. Greek ships also had and aye painted on them.
- At the battle of salamis the Athenians evacuated all of their people to ships where they planned to fight the Persians at sea. While Athens burned the people fought the Persian navy at sea and destroyed them.
- The last battle of the Second Persian war was at the battle of Plataea. The Greeks defeated the Persians and King Xerxes returned home without a win.
- After the war
- after the war the Athenians power grew after rebuilding Athens and becoming stronger than before. Sparta however, was left weakened after sending so many men to Thermopylae. Athens created an organization called the delian league to protect other city states from hostility.
