- During Carnival in Italy, Montresor runs into Fortunato. Montresor offers him a bottle of Amontillado and fortunato excepts the invitation.
- Falling Action
- The problem is, the wine is in Motresors catacombs and It is very late, and fortunato seems to be sick. Montresor lures him to the catacombs to get the wine.
- Resolution
- While Montresor lures Fortunato to the catacombs, Fortunato starts coughing a lot and Montresor asks if he's okay and if he would like to return to the carnival.
- Theme
- They stop walking and they are in front of the niche and they see all of these human remains. Montresor offers fortunato a drink because he keeps coughing. Fortunato is beyond drunk at this point and doesn't know whats going on.
- Montresor locks Fortunato in the whole with chains and he starts covering it up with a trowel and some building bricks and mortar. Fortunato thinks that Montresor is joking but he actually wasn't. Montresor finishes up covering him and fortunato dies.
- The theme of this story is revenge because Montresor was seeking revenge on his "friend."
