- The first basketball game was played in the YMCA gymnasium in Albany, New York on January 20, 1892. The game became popular after a short period of time, spreading outside of Springfield like wildfire.

- Hi I am Mussar A. Salamat.let me tell you a brief history of Basketball.
- Baseball and Football are too dangerous to be played in a gym, which is why I invented Basketball.
- Basketball was invented because it had been too cold to be playing football or baseball and was too dangerous to play those sports in gym. A school had then asked him to invent a new sport which is when he had asked for the peach baskets and cleared the gymnasium floor to then have invented basketball.

- After he graduated from Presbyterian College located in Montreal and had a theology degree, he acknowledged his love for athletics and decided to study more about physical education in Springfield. Luther Halsey Gulick was the superintendent of physical education at the College and he had stressed the need for a new indoor game. one that's easy to learn and easier to play in the winter. No one in the class faced the challenge to come up with a new sport but when the end of fall sports season and dreading madatory gymnasium work was when Naismith had the motivation.

- A few weeks after basketball was invented, they had introduced it to their own YMCA's. Rules for the game were printed in a College magazine which was mailed around YMCA's. Because of the College, basketball was introduced to many nations in a small period of time. High Schools and Colleges began to introduce the game and in 1905 it became a permanent winter sport.
- Since basketball was invented, it has changed a lot since then and is now one of the most popular sports. Including how the courts have changed, instead of the original peach baskets that started it all in the beginning we now have sleek modern looking courts. The rules have also changed since then including how we now have three pointer shots. This sport has had a large impact on society, now we have many different teams which bring out the nationalism within their city. Many cities have teams in the NBA representing them which brings out a healthy competition and helps with socialization, support, and unity among others. We can all come together to cheer on our for the team representing our city.
