- In chapter 1, gardener kidnaps Buck in Santa Clara and sells him to Francois in Seattle.
- Sure, I'll give you the chance.

- In chapter 2, Buck starts to have respect for law of the jungle and after being beaten by a man then watching his friend curly get killed by other dogs.
- It's my dog!
- Stop doing that or I'll kill you!
- Ouch!
- In chapter 3, the main event of this chapter is when Spitz died because Buck bit his leg. Buck and Spitz originally fought because Buck caught Spitz laying on his nest causing them to fight each other concluding Spitz's death.
- I bet you Buck here could pull this 1,000 pound sled 100 yards.
- I want that DOG!
- You have a deal!
- In chapter 4, Francois tries to make Sol-leks, lead dog, but Buck makes it clear that he wants the spot by jumping on Sol-leks to get out of his way. He thinks quickly, and lead the other dogs when he needed. He also helps new dogs fit into the team.
- In chapter 5, Buck and his team were sold again to Hal, Mercedes, and Charles. These three people weren't very skilled in anything, but luckily someone saved Buck from be abused by Hal. John Thornton took a Buck in as his owner, and because he is the best owner Buck has ever had.
- In chapter 6, Buck finds a master he loved. Buck liked John Thornton because he treated him and was willing to the kill man who argued with John. He also made a bet that Buck can pull a sled with 1,000 pounds 100 yards.
