  • That damned Fortunato dares to hurt and insult me?! This is unacceptable I must get revenge!
  • EXPOSITION
  • Hello there Fortunato, I see that you are very drunk, would you care to taste a rare barrel of a very rare brandy called Amontillado?
  • RISING ACTION
  • Then he meets a very drunk Fortunato on his way. The drunk and eager Fortunato was eager to taste the rare brandy. And follows the man.
  • If you insist, my good sir.
  • Oh my, you are too sick to be down among these damp crypts, Fortunato. You should go back.
  • So he and the narrator descend to the Montresor family's underground graveyard, or "catacomb," where the narrator presumably stores his wine. The narrator leads Fortunato deeper and deeper into the catacomb, intensifying his intoxication.
  • But I want to taste the Amontillado brandy *hics* I am alright my lord. *hics*
  • RISING ACTION
  • Come, it's just up ahead.
  • Are we getting closer, my lord? *coughs*
  • Fortunato eventually walks into a man-sized hole in the wall of a truly horrendous crypt. The narrator binds Fortunato to the wall and then begins to fill in the hole with bricks, closing Fortunato in. When he is down to his last brick, he psychologically tortures Fortunato until he begs for mercy – and we finally get the man's name: Fortunato refers to him as "Montresor."
  • I beg of you, help me! Aaaaaaaargh! My lord, I'm sorry! *hics* Montressoooooor!!!
  • CLIMAX
  • You've fallen right into my trap foolish Fortunato! Now beg! Beg for mercy for what you've done to me!
  • But just before Montresor puts in the last brick, Fortunato jingles his bells. Then Montresor finishes the job and leaves him there to die.
  • I beg of you, release me! Aaaaaaaargh!
  • This is where you will die! so long, Fortunato!
  • FALLING ACTION
  • Ah yes, I remembered something that happened 50 years ago and no one even knew what happened. Requiesce in pace, Fortunato.
  • At the very end, Montresor tells us that the whole affair happened fifty years ago, and nobody has found out.
