- Oil is formed from plants/animals that have died sank to the bottom of the ocean. They most often transform to rock. The weight of the water, heat from the Earth, and chemical changes Overtime the oil and natural gas will seep into tiny holes in layers of rock. Some will rise to the Earth's surface but most will remain under impermeable rock.
- oIl companies drill down through cap rock to get to the oil underneath. They pump it to the surface, if this doesn't work they use fracking. Which is where they inject water or gas into the well to add pressure to force the oil out.Oil is used to make gasoline, asphalt, plastics, waxes, and clothing to name a few.
- Oil is not distributed equally throughout the world. Oil can only be created with large bodies of water. A lot of oil was formed along time ago in Southwest Asia. Saudi Arabia has a most of the world's oil whereas Kuwait has very little. Yemen has even less than Kuwait. There are oil reserves throughout the world. Oil can only be formed in certain areas around the world. Not every where has the conditions to produce oil but the oil can be distributed evenly throughout the world. For example, through the pipeline or tanker trucks can deliver oil throughout the world. Oil tends to make countries more wealthy.
