- Yes, I can...The sky is reddish .
- 'This so so beautiful Mom. Neeraj, you remember us speaking about the scattering of blue light? Can you see another example of the same before your eyes?'
- Sindhu wants to test Neeraj some more...
- Light from the Sun near the horizon passes through thicker layers of air and travels larger distance in the atmosphere before reaching our eyes. So the blue light is scattered away and the sky appears reddish at the horizon…right?
- Can you explain why?
- Perfect bro! Did you also know that we actually see the Sun a few minutes before it rises and a few minutes after it sets. Its because of scattering of light that happens in the atmosphere.'
- Neeraj is still wondering
- The Sun is looking flat and oval right?
- 'During sunrise and sunset , the sun is at the horizon and the rays of light from the upper and lower periphery of the sun bend unequally on travelling through the earths atmosphere. Hence the sun appears oval or flattened at those times…Oh I'm sure taking a pic…
