- Steven does not believe the doctors, and thinks they messed up the diagnoses. He is denying the fact.

- Steven is sitting in class angrily thinking about how Jeffery is away, and he thinks it is like a vacation that his mom and brother left him out of. 
- acceptance 
- Steven started bargaining with God and himself, saying little things to sort of motivate himself, for example, if he ate healthy, Jeffery would be cured.
