- This interaction between the brothers explains how Darry and Ponyboy fought, and how Sodapop would be in the middle of these fights. This argument would lead to more conflict in the future, one being the death of Bob. (Hinton 50)
- This conflict lead to Johnny, Ponyboy, and Dally to be known as heros even after killing Bob. This event is what caused the death of Johnny and Dally, and Ponyboy becoming sick physically and mentally. (Hinton 91)
- This event shows that Ponyboy is still dazed from everything that has happened, from the death of Bob to Johnny and Dally dying. This further supports the conflict by showing the reader that Ponyboy is blaming himself for things he did not do, and this impacts his physical and mental health and stability. (Hinton 165)
