- At the start the narrator lets us know that Fortunato offended him and wants to plan for revenge. He shares his plan when he says " I must not only punish but punish with impunity"Poe 866. From what he said in the quote we can guess that he will punish fortunato very badly.
- Rising Action
- The narrator meets Fortunato and lures him to the catacombs. He got to go down there because he said there was an amontillado down there. the narrator uses this quote to get lure Fortunato down. "My dear friend Fortunato, you are luckily we met. How remarkably well you are looking today. But I have received a pipe of what passes for amontillado, and I have my doubts"Poe886. The Narrator uses this quote to lure the drunk man to his doom. With saying there was wine Fortunate came easily.

- The climax of the story to me is when Fortunato realizes that there was no wine and just a hole. HIs reaction was used in this quote. " He is an ignoramus as he stepped unstadily forward, while I followed immediately at his heels"Poe869. In this quote his realizes what is going on and gets on his heels knowing what is happing but also is just shocked.

- The falling action is when the narrator chains and traps Fortunato. The narrator uses Fortunato uses Fortunato shock to chain him up. "He was too astounded to resist"Poe869. As shown Fortunato was too shocked to resist and the narrator took advantage of that to chain him up and fill the hole.
- I would say the resolution is when the narrator finishes the wall and traps Fortunato in the hole forever. "A succession of loud and shrill screams, bursting suddenly from the throat of the chained form, seemed to thrust me violently back"poe870. From the screams we can assume that fortunate is In great pain and the narrator can feel and is happy.
