- "That's for you royal! (Hunter 1).
- I wish I could cry out for help
- Would Laura be mad at me for not being back home yet?
- I love Laura
- "What's the matter buddy?" (Wilson 2).
- "Did you fall down? You must be as drunk as I am" (Wilson 2).
- "Please help me. Yes call a cop, please call one" (Wilson 2).
- The main character Andy was recklessly stabbed in the middle of an ally, because of the purple jacket he was wearing representing a gang group the Royals. He attempted to yell out for help but nothing would come out of his injured body. He lay on the sidewalk his mind running through wild thoughts.
- "I don't want to get mixed up in this, he's a Royal" (Wilson 4).
- Andy does not know he's dying. He's having an internal conflict about him worrying about his future. He wants to marry his girlfriend Laura and have a family with her. He would move to the Bronx and start fresh together.
- I need to take off the jacket. People hate the jacket not me.
- Andy hears footsteps coming from the other other side of the ally. A drunk man approached Andy. The man assumes Andy is drunk and just laying on the ground and leaves him there.
- "A Royal, huh?" (Wilson 7).
- Andy hears a couple run into the ally where he's laying. He struggles to make a sound to let them know he needs help. He manages to make a grunting sound of pain. The couple runs over and inspects Andy. They were willing to help at first and were concerned until they noticed the purple jacket. They refused to help him because of his status being in the Royals. They did not want to get mixed up in the gang violence.
- Andy was determined to take off his purple jacket. He just came to the realization that his life would probably be over at age 16 because of a jacket. "The jacket was a stupid meaningless thing that was robbing him of his life" (Wilson 6). He used all his strength to take off the jacket because he wanted to die as Andy and not as a Royal.
- Laura finds Andy lying in the ally dying. She runs to get help and finds the closest cop. By the time they come to help him Andy had died. The cop looks at Andy then at the purple jacket laying next to him and judges him off of the jacket.
