  • Hello we are from JKM Department and we are talking about Occupational Safety and Health Administration(OSHA). OSHA is one of important subject in course DEP, DTK and also DIB.OSHA: The Occupational Safety and Health Administration, an agency of the US Government under the Department of Labour with the responsibility of ensuring safety at work and a healthful work environment.OSHA MISSION: 1) Prevent work-related injuries.2) Prevent illnesses.3) Prevent death.
  • OSHA IMPACT: - cut the work - related fatality rate to historic law of 2002 to 2004. -From 2003 to 2004, reduced the number of workplace injuries and illnesses by 4 percent and lost work day case rates dropped by 5.8 percent in that same period.-virtually iliminated brown lung diseases in the textile industry.OSHA'S CONTINUING ROLE: - Almost 5200 americans die from workplace injuries in the private sector.-perhaps, as many as 50 000 employees die from illnesses in which workplace exposures were a contributing factor.
  • WHAT OSHA:-OSHA uses three basic strategies, authorized by the Occupational Safety and Health Act, to help employers and employees reduce injuries, illnesses, and deaths on the job. - Strong, fair and effective enforcement.- Education and compliance assistance. - Partnerships , Alliances and other program cooperative and voluntary programs.
  • OSHA COVERAGE:-The OSHA act covers private sector employers and their employees in the 50 states and certain territories and jurisdictions under federal authority. Those jurisdictions include the District Of Columbia, Puerto Rico, the Virgin Islands, American Samoa, Guam, Northern Mariana Islands, Wake Islands, Johnston Islands, and the Outer Continental Shelf Lands as defined in the Outer Continental Shelf Lands Act.
  • Who is not coveredThe OSHA Act does not cover:- The self- employed -members of immediate family of farm employers that do not employ outside workers.-worker condition that are regulated under worker safety or health requirements of other federal agencies.-employees of state and local governments; some states have their own occupational safety and health plans that cover this workers.
  • Conclusion:In conclusion, occupational safety and health Act 1994 is one the good Act implemented in Malaysia because this Act can be as guideline to the employers and also employees for securing the safety, health and welfare of themselves at work.
