- Jesus was led by the holy spirit into the wilderness to be temted be the devil
- After fasting forty days and forty nights, He was hungry. The tempter came to Him. Then the devil said, ‘If youare the Son of God, tell thesestones to become bread’.
- ‘Itis written: “Man shall not liveon bread alone, but on everyword that comes from themouth of God.”’
- Then the devil took Jesus to Jerusalem and had Him stand on the highest point of the Temple. ‘Jump off,’ he said, ‘and prove you are the Son of God; for the Scriptures declare, “God will send His angels to keep you from harm, they will prevent you from smashing on the rocks below.”’Jesus answered him, ‘It alsosays don’t put the Lord yourGod to a foolish test!’
- ‘Get out of here, Satan,’ . ‘The Scriptures say, “Worship only the Lord God.Obey only Him.”’
- Next the devil took Jesus to thepeak of a very high mountainand showed Him the nations ofthe world and all their glory. ‘I’llgive it all to you,’ he said, ‘if youwill only kneel and worship me.’
- Then Satan went away, andangels came and cared forJesus. Jesus returned toGalilee, full of the HolySpirit’s power.
