- Oedipus's hamartia is his anger, as he consistently makes assumptions, and making quick decisions such as threatening Tiresias leading to his fall downward.
- Anagnorisis
- I can not believe that this is my doing!
- Because of Oedipus's excessive pride he tends to neglect others opinions and only believe in his own thoughts.
- Catastrophe
- There is a turn of events when Tiresias accuses Oedipus of killing Laius, Oedipus refuses to believe what he is saying.
- Catharsis
- Please send me to Cithaeron, I must be punished.
- Oedipus reaches anagnorisis when he figures out that he is the murderer.
- Oedipus's catastrophe is when he poked out his eyes after Jocasta's suicide. Oedipus believed that this was a form of punishment.

- The audience starts to feel sorry for Oedipus after he poked his eyes out and later begged Creon to send him to Cithaeron.
