Let's take a short ride as I recap my summer adventure in BER 631 - Qual I
Dia: 2
Qual I has been a great class to help me increase my understanding of this research method. Prior to this class, I had very limited knowledge about qualitative research. The only thing I knew was that I prefer words/conversations over numbers.
Taking this class in the summer couldn't have been at a better time. My other summer class, AHE 680 (Readings in HE), allowed me to learn more about qualitative and quantitative research while also taking Qual I. I found myself making connections between the two courses which was helpful to me. I was able to take what I was learning from one class and apply it to the other.
I didn't realize my summer would be full of research conversations, but I am glad it turned out the way it did.

Something that continues to resonate with me is the paper doll assignment and how that relates to qual. research and subjectivity. I learned about how instrumental researchers are to the process, how they influence the process, and how to recognize my own subjectivity.
Throughout the duration of the course, I found myself having conversations with colleagues, friends, and co-workers about what I was learning in class. I would randomly bring it up in conversation. This is how I know I was retaining information from class.
I look forward to continuing on this qualitative adventure....so much so that I registered for qual. interviewing fall semester.
