- 200km from Rome in the bay of Naples, lies Pompeii. It was a beautiful place with grand buildings like temples and forums made of stone.

- 2000 years ago Pompeii was a busy and important Roman city until one big day...
- People used the soil of Mount Vesuvius for crops as the land was very good!
- On 24th August AD 79 Mount Vesuvius started erupting but no one cared!
- DANGER!Mount Vesuvius is erupting!
- Many citizens tried running but couldn't get away quick enough. Leaving them to be left in 9m of deep ash.
- 18 hours after the first explosion a massive one occured! Breaking a huge chunk of the mountain off.
- Not far from Pompeii there was a man called Pliny who saw the entire eruption happen, his notes helped scientists understand the sequence.
- He described the eruption as a "Stone Pine Tree"
- In 1748 archaeologists discovered Pompeii
- It took over 200 years to dig out the thick layer of ash and soil.
