- Odysseus and his crew were on their way home when Eurylocus wanted to stop at the island of Thrinacia. The island of the sun god Helios. Odysseus didn't want to stop because of Tiresia's prophecy. But the other men agreed with Eurylocus and Odysseus had no choice but to stop for night.
- Odysseus warned his shipmates about Tiresia's prophecy and how if they eat any of the sun god's cattle the rest of the trip home won't be pleasant. They also had a lot of food and drinks so Odysseus wasn't too worried. The men relaxed and had a good time.
- A month later the men were all out of food now and Odysseus fell into a deep sleep. Eurylocus gathered the men and divised a plan to kill one cattle so the men won't starve. The shipmates agreed.
- The men killed one of the sun gods cattle while Odysseus was still "asleep." Odysseus woke up from his long, deep sleep and was aware of the men killing one of the cattle. Now that they had broken the prophecy they had to get out of there quickly.
- As the men went out to sea, Zeus cast a big storm as the gods were upset. They were upset for the men eating the cattle. All the men except the noble Odysseus died. Odysseus feels horrible about his men eating the cattle and angering the gods.

- Odysseus made a raft and keel and sailed away. He came across the monster Charybdis and survived his vortex. He then came across the island of Calypso and that is where this book leaves off.
