- There once was a prophet named Hosea who grew up an Ephraimite from a rural background. He spent his whole life in the northern Kingdom of Israel.
- The Lord spoke to Hosea and told him to find a woman of prostitution and have children with her. So he found a woman, Gomer, daughter of Diblaim. Later on, after all their youngest child was weened, Hosea sends his wife to the wilderness to repent of her sins. When they are reunited they make a promise to be loyal to each other and God.
- Together, they had a son and the Lord named him Jezreel for in a little while I will punish the house of Jehu for the bloodshed at Jezreel and bring to an end the kingdom of the house of Israel. Next they had a daughter named Not-Pitied for the Lord will no longer feel pity for the house of Israel. The last sons name was Not-My-People for the Lord said you are not my people and I am not "I am" for you.
- One of the prophecies given by Hosea was if the people of Israel don't repent from their sins, then God would allow their nation to be destroyed and all the people of Israel will be taken into captivity.
