- Sandy, I'm scared. If I go back to the fields then Mr. Covey will kill me! He will brutally hurt me as much as he can.
- CAPTION: Douglass met Sandy and tells him his situation. Sandy agrees to help him and makes up a plan. He tells Douglass to go back to Covey and gives him a root which he says to always carry on his right side.
- Sandy: You must follow what I say. Go back to the fields, take this root and always carry it on your right side. Mr Covey, or any white man will ever whip you again.
- CAPTION: Covey tries to tie Douglass up, but as he finds out what Covey is trying to do, he fights back. Covey and Douglass fight for about 2 hours. At the end, Douglass won the fight, with no blood of his own on his body.
- GET OFF OF ME DOUGLASS!!!!!
- You can't get away this time Covey! You won't be able to break me!
- CAPTION: After the fight, Covey realizes that he was not able to break Douglass, a slave. He is scared of Douglass and tries to treat him kindly, as he doesn't want another quarrel to happen for the second time, since he knows he won't win it.
- Can I take a break Mr. Covey?
- Y-yes... you may.
