  • After the Battle of Brookland, the leader of the Aldington Gang, Cephas Quested was arrested and executed for his crimes against England.
  • Cephas Quested was hanged in July of 1821. After his death, George Ransley took over operations of the Aldington Gang, and became the new leader.

  • After George became the leader, the gang thrived, and found headquarters at the Walnut Tree Inn in Aldington. The Aldington Gang began to smuggle all sorts of goods across Kent.

  • One night in July of 1826, the gang was caught by the Royal Navy and the local police force on the beach in Dover. The altercation resulted in the death of a lower Navy officer named Richard Morgan.
  • George and his 13 fellow gang members were arrested on the beach by the Bow Street Runners on charges of murder and smuggling.
  • All 13 men plead guilty to the charges laid against them, however no one was specifically charged with the murder of Richard Morgan due to the insufficient amount of evidence pointing to the man who fired the fatal shot.
  • Guilty.
