In my Political Comic, I choose to use Tess and Logan to represent how the Articles had no real power over the people. Men and women had fought, with guns and without, to bring independence to America. They had worked so hard and were rightfully angry when Congress didn’t pay them for all their years of service. They were angry and threatened to take up arms against Congress to get the money they deserved. They were broke after fighting for their country in such horrible conditions and couldn’t provide their families with food because Congress had no money to pay or support them. Congress had no sure way to get money, just like Logan had no allowance. The Articles of Confederation did not provide Congress with a way to tax, therefore they unfairly did not pay their troops until unrest, like Tess’s complaints and threats, made Congress aware that something was wrong. They held a Continental Congress meeting and completely rewrote the government. Logan, like Congress, couldn’t stop his sister from telling their mom because he had no real power over her. Congress, like Logan, couldn’t raise money regularly and couldn’t stop the soldiers from rioting until they gave them what they were promised. They were able to pay off the soldiers and develop a better government. In the end, the power is in the hands of the people. If you want a change, make one.
