  • Have you heard about all of the beaver preserves?
  • Yeah, Ive heard that there is lots of wealth in them. We should go collect some.
  • Can you give us some funding for trading beaver pelts?
  • Back in Quebec...
  • What about permission to keep exploring?
  • NO! I am not giving you any funding, and you Groseilliers, is going to jail for trading illegally.

  • Me and my men have to turn back! The storm is too severe to sail in!
  • The two returned to Quebec with beaver pelts but the French governor denied them of any funding or permission to continue exploring. The French governor even went as far as putting Groseilliers in jail for trading without a license.
  • Groseilliers and the fort his crew built
  • This fort will be perfect! Hopefully Radisson shows up soon and we can start trading furs this winter.
  • They eventually got financing from Prince Rupert so Radisson and Groseilliers sailed in search for the Northwest Passage.
  • Several years later...
  • We did it! All of our hard work has payed off!
  • Yes indeed! Now we can grow the company and trade even more!
  • Radisson and Groseilliers sailed in two different boats with a crew of men on each boat. Radisson and his crew were forced to turn back to Plymouth due to severe storms.
  • Groseilliers and his crew continued and built the first fort in the region. Later that winter, Radisson and Groseilliers spent the season trading for furs together.
  • The wealth from the fur trade led to the founding of the Hudson's Bay Company in 1670. In 1674, Radisson and Groseilliers renewed their good relationship with France and many years later, Radisson was again employed by the Hudson's Bay Company.
