- In 1905, there was a revolution that exposed Tsar Nicholas II's weakness after Russia lost in Russo-Japanese War. People forced Nicholas II to establish a constitutional monarchy, and Nicholas II established a representative parliament(Duma), but their power was limited. After this war and during WWI, he lost people's trust.
- Bolsheviks and the October Revolution
- Working women went on streets of Petrograd-oh protesting in International women's day, which led to the abdication of Nicholas II.
- Red Army
- Tzar Nicholas II was abdicated, and the Members of Duma created a provisional government led by Alexandr Kerensky. During that time, many political groups were fighting for power.
- The Struggle of Power
- In October of 1917, the Bolsheviks only won a minority of seats in the Constituent Assembly, and then they started a revolution to take over the provisional government. Vladimir Lenin was the leader of this group; Trotsky and Stalin helped him organizing the revolution and government. Then, the Bolsheviks signed the Treaty of Brest-Litovsk to exit WWI. USSR was declared in 1922.
- During the Russian Civil War, Leon Trotsky built the Red Army and Chekha, which was a secret police that targeted their opponents (White movement).
- After Lenin died in 1924, Trotsky lost in the struggle of power, so Stalin exiled him, and Tritsky was assassinated during his exile. At last, Joseph Stalin became the dictator of the Soviet Union.
