Various students coming from Chhattisgarh and Gujrat were recruited for a project at a University. The project focused on poverty scenarios, families that are BPL, poverty eradication programmes, their effectiveness and further developmental programmes for both the states.
What about the effectiveness of these programs?
Yeah more than 31.4 lakh families in Gujarat are living below poverty line!
So, starting with info collected so far, the poverty scenario in Gujrat and Chhattisgarh is similar but different at the same time
On the other hand Chhattisgarh doesn't exactly have alleviation programmes but has many Rural development programmes, which would probably help in eradicating rural poverty but urban poverty is totally being overlooked.
Talking about poverty alleviation schemes in Gujarat, we have state scholarship for pre-SSC students, interesting loans to buy business or providing locations for small businesses, Rehabilitation of scavengers and their dependents.
Woah that's a huge number
Well, The Gujarat government has constantly spoken about how well it has done, but if we look at its poverty alleviation programs, we see that it has not done well.
Right. Both the states have tribal and rural populations which don't have job opportunities for the people living there.
And such programs haven't fared well in Chhattisgarh either.
And more than 40 % of Chhattisgarh's population is living under the poverty line
Exactly! But the difference come in the urban poverty scenarios where most of Gujarat is commercialized unlike most of Chhattisgarh
