  • Oh no, I made such a mess i dropped all of my pens. Now thinking about it, why did my pens fall the way they did and not just float in the air?
  • Well, We have gravity which is a force that pushes objects to the ground or to the center of the Earth. This is why your pens fell to the ground instead of floating around your room!
  • There! you just poured a glass of water, this is also another example of how gravity works. If we were in space or anywhere anti-gravity water would just go into particles up into the air.
  • Does the bowling ball roll from the force of gravity?
  • No this isn't about gravity anymore. This is considered friction! More specifically rolling friction. Rolling friction is resisting the motion of a body rolling on a surface. This is common in shapes that are rounded such as your bowling ball.
  • Is riding our bikes also considered rolling friction?
  • Yes! You're probably excited because I lectured you all day but this is our last one. Bikes are also considered rolling friction. The rolling resistance is going to depend on the surface you ride on against the wheels. If it is grass there would be more resistance. If it was the material that they use on the basketball court there would be barely any friction. This is not sliding friction. Sliding friction is usually caused by a tilt on a surface that any body is placed on that allows it to slide. Now remember there is more than rolling friction. There are 3 other types! but we wont get into that today. Now let's ride!
