  • Its getting a little chilly.
  • "Fall had barley touched the full splendor of the trees, and during the height of the day the sun briefly regained its summertime power. In the air there was only an edge of coolness to imply the coming winter. But all had been caught up, like the first fallen leaves, by a new and energetic wind. The Summer Session-a few dozen bows being force-fed education, a stopgap while most of the masters were away and most of the traditions stored against sultriness-the Summer Session was over" (Knowels 72).
  • "I had the same the same room which Finny and I shared during the summer, but across the hall, in the large suite Leper Lepellier had dreamed his way through July and August amid sunshine and dust motes and windows through which the ivy had reached tentatively into the room, here Brinker Hadley had established his headquarters" (74).

  • Gene had the same room for Winter session as he did for the Summer Session. The room was across from Brinkers large suite which Leper had wanted over the summer. Ch.6
  • "Jobs like mine were usually taken by boys with some physical disability, since everyone had to take part in sports and this was all disabled boys could do" (77).
  • "How many?" (77).
  • "Who knows? Get some. As many as you can carry. That won't be too many" (77).

  • Gene was late to an appointment and decided to go to the tree on his way there. He thought about Finny and one of his tricks.Ch.6
  • "No, I never did. I rowed on the lightweight crew for two years" (78).
  • "I don't know, manage something else" (78).
  • "I wrestle in the winter, What are you doping in the winter?" (78).
  • "Your a senior aren't you?" (78).
  • "You never rowed did you" (77).
  • Gene shows up late to the Crew House. Quackenbush immediatly gets after Gene once he walks in.Ch.6
  • I've got to have some real help around here. This crew is going to win the New England scholastics, or my name isn't Cliff Quackenbush"(77).
  • Quackenbush tells Gene to get towels and notices that Gene is not the strongest. Gene realizes that he is given an easy job.Ch.6
  • Quackenbush brings up sports and starts to diss him. Gene responds and get Quackenbush gets angry.Ch.6
  • "Yeah" (78).
