  • Women were fed up about the bread prices rising, so they marched in Versailles with pitchforks, knives, and axes. They marched into the palace, and killed the guards, while Marie Antoinette used her own children as a shield. The King and Queen became prisoners of the third estate until their execution in 1791. This sparked the change in government, radical reforms, and power.
  • Execution of Louis XVI and Marie Antoinette
  • This was inspired by the United States Declaration of Independence. Except their slogan was liberty, equality, and fraternity. This document only applied to men and not women. It included natural rights and freedom of speech and religion.
  • Rise of Napoleon
  • The Reign of Terror was a time in 1793 when Maximilien Robespierre was the dictator of France. 40,000 people were killed at the guillotine during this time. They executed anyone they suspected to dissent the revolution. They also executed people for entertainment.
  • Fall of Napoleon
  • King Louis XVI was executed in January 1793 and was killed by the guillotine along with the Queen Marie Antoinette.
  • Napoleon slowly rose to power by strategically gaining the people's trust and respect. For example, to earn the peasant's approval he had made amends with the church. He stated that it was important, but shouldn't be entirely in power. Although nobody new at the time that it meant for him to have complete power. He made a more sufficient tax collection method, and became an army leader.
  • Napoleon started showing dictatorship flags, and continuously conquered any land he could get his hands on. Along the way he had made some poor decisions, such as taking his troops to Russia only to have lost most of his army. Napoleon was a greedy and destructive man, therefore he was exiled from Europe for good eventually.
