- When Moses was born the Israelites were slaves in egypt. the pharaoh ordered that all hebrew baby boys be killed at birth because the pharaoh was afraid that they might take over his country.to save moses his mother hid him in a basket by the side of the river. moses sister miriam watched him until the pharoah's sister found moses and took him and raised him as her son.
