- Scene 3
- The play starts in some New England woods. It's at the height of the witch accusation craze. A group of girls are found dancing in the woods and are accused of associating with the devil. They say a slave named Tituba made them do it. Tituba pleads innocent and one of the girls named Abigail starts accusing other women.
- Scene 4
- HALE BEGINS TO PLACE HALF OF TOWN ON TRIAL FOR WITCHCRAFTING. ABIGAIL, THE OLDEST GIRL, SPEAKS TO JOHN PROCTOR IN HOPES OF REKINDLING THEIR ADULTEROUS RELATIONSHIP; PROCTOR SNUBS HER. ABIGAIL ACCUSES JONH'S WIFE.
- Scene 5
- IN AN ATTEMPT TO UNCOVER THE DECEPTION OF THE YOUNG GIRLS, JHON PROCTOR BRINGS MARRY WARREN TO TESTIFY THAT ABIGAIL IS LIYING TO THE COURT.
- Scene 6
- To make John even angrier, Abigail accuses Elizabeth of witchcraft. An inspector comes, and when he sees the poppet he says these are trademarks of the devil. He says Elizabeth has to go to jail and wait for her trial. John tries to defend her, but he doesn't know his ten commandments and Elizabeth is taken away.
- John goes to Abigail to curse her for accusing Elizabeth. Abigail tries to convince John to leave Elizabeth. She says if he does she will help Elizabeth in court. John is furious and leaves, taking Mary and some of the other townsfolk to help Elizabeth in court.
- Abigail heads to court with her group of friends, preparing to get Elizabeth executed. To be continued...
