  • yah, we can barley get anything done in 2-3 years!
  • What's the point of having a band council if you control most of the stuff on reserves!?
  • We don't trust you to handle your own issues. The Department of Indian Affairs will take care of that.
  • The school looks...alright, but what about the hospital?
  • wasn't it part of the treaty?
  • idk, that sounds like a you problem tbh...
  • what hospital, idk what you're talking about.
  • HEY, WHAT ARE YOU DOING?
  • But the permit system and the trashy land u gave us makes it difficult for us to produce crops!
  • That's not my problem. If you won't make use of this land, I know someone who will!
  • Leasing out your land, I mean you're not really using it anyway...so
  • First Nations use a band council (electoral system) to govern reserves. The Chief's power is limited because the Departement of Indian Affairs handles most of the big elements on reserves. Long-term changes can't be made since there is an election every 2-3 years.
  • So about the donation...
  • of course he did...
  • I'm so sorry I can't, the Superintendent General declined me permission.
  • Often the resources that Treaties promise aren't adequately provided on reserves by the government. Meaning was often lost through translation so both parties have different interpretations of what the Treaties offered.
  • I'm tried of being treated unfairly. They took our land and now won't provide us with proper rights like they promised!
  • Facts, all these restrictions go against our charter rights.
  • IKR, the government has so much pride in the Charter yet won't let it apply to us to execute our freedoms
  • Land on reserves is sometimes leased out to non-First Nations because the government thinks the First Nations haven't used it to its full extent. It's difficult for them to do that because of the permit system/unsuitable land they were given.
  • Thank you for listening to everything wrong with reserves!
  • No one is allowed to solicit funds to First Nations reserves/legal claims without a license from the Superintendent General. This makes it difficult for them to fight for their land.
  • I told you!
  • The restrictions described in these videos all go against Charter rights. These rights include: Sec. 1/2 (Guarantee of Rights/Fundamental Freedoms), Sec. 3 (Democratic Rights), Sec. 6 (Mobility Rights), Sec. 15 (Equality Rights), and Sec. 25 (Collective Indigenous General Rights)
  • Now you tell us, do you think this treatment is fair. Our collective rights are being butchered when taking the Charter into consideration, all just so the government can assimilate our culture. To support us follow ImproveTheReserves on Tiktok, Twitter, and Instagram!
