- We should increase taxes to help fund for our armies.

- The enlightenment was a time where the ideas of a philosopher named John Locke made people question the order of the hierarchy, and people were unsure about the placement of the King.
- Down with the stamp tax!
- The government in the colonies consisted of groups of elected officials. The groups were called assemblies. The assemblies were in charge of establishing and collecting taxes in the colonies as well as creating local laws.

- After helping the colonies win the French and Indian war, the king heavily taxed the colonies without anyone in Britain to represent them. The colonists were angry because the king had let them govern themselves for so long.
- We the People of the United States, in Order to form a more perfect Union, establish Justice, insure domestic Tranquility, provide for the common defence, promote the general Welfare, and secure the Blessings of Liberty to ourselves and our Posterity, do ordain and establish this Constitution for the United States of America.
- When Britain enacted the Stamp Tax, every piece of paper had to be stamped and approved by the King or his representatives. The colonists then created the Stamp Act Congress which stated that the British couldn't tax the colonists without representation.

- When the British cut off the colonists' trade with the rest of the world and enacted the Tea Act, the colonists were forced to buy overpriced tea from Britain or make some themselves. The colonists dumped the tea into the Boston Harbor in 1773, this response is known as the Boston Tea Party.
- The colonists wrote the Declaration of Independence to sever themselves from Britain. The acts of tyranny from King George III had become too much.
