The short story entitled "How My Brother Leon Brought Home a Wife" was written by Mr. MANUEL E. ARGUILLA an Ilocano who won first prize in the Commonwealth Literary Contest in 1940.

Exposition
The story begins as the narrator, Baldo, introduces his brother Leon and Maria. He describes Maria's physical appearance and how his brother Leon (Noel) is in love with his wife. Then, they start their journey with Labang.

The complication of the story shown when Baldo took the road of Waig instead of passing Camino Real. It was the wish of the father to go by Waig. They where trying to test Maria's characteristics, her attitude, her looks, she talks and the way she handles the situation.

Climax
The highlight of the story is when Baldo, Maria, and Leon arrived to their home. Leon introduced Maria to his family but they unable to meet his father because of his feet disability.

Falling Action
The problem was solved when Baldo talked to his father describing how Maria acted and was able to adapt to the new environment she is heading too. She surpassed the trials given by their father proving herself that she is worth for Leon as wife.

Resolution
While Baldo and his father are talking they suddenly sensed that Leon and Maria will enter their room and because of that, Baldo and his father suddenly changed their topic about Labang and ask him to hand water to Labang. As Baldo leaves, he wondered how he can still smell the fragrance of Maria like a morning when papayas are in bloom.
