- Scene 1: Heading to the Parking Lot
- What a long day at the hospital. I can't wait to get home, relax, and watch some Grey's Anatomy!
- Scene 2: Realizing Someone wants their Parking Spot
- Scene 3: Territorial Defense in Parking Lot
- That honking is so annoying, no one is having a myocardial infarction here jeez!
- Dr. Purdy’s is leaving the mall parking lot after a long day spent at the hospital. A sales associate named Andy is late for his job at the mall and is in a rush to get a parking spot, at peak visiting hours at the mall.
- Scene 4: Retaliation Against Waiting Driver
- This lady thinks she can take forever just because she is driving a Mercedes-Benz, ya right!
- Andy sees that Dr. Prudy is walking to her car and decides to wait in his car with his turning signal on, ready to take her parking spot. As Dr. Purdy opens her car door, Andy begins to honk his horn at her in an attempt to hurry Dr. Purdy out of the parking spot.
- Scene 5: Road Rage
- Dr. Purdy demonstrates territorial behaviour over the mall parking spot by remaining in the parking spot and defending the location although she does not need it anymore. Andy intrudes upon Dr. Purdy and as a result she departs from the parking spot slower. Dr Purdy takes up to 40 seconds before trying to leave the parking spot as a result of the increase in intrusion (honking).
- Scene 6: Confrontation
- Andy begins to get annoyed at the long wait and recognizes that Dr. Purdy is driving an expensive Mercedes-Benz AMG GT and this serves as a distraction condition. Andy drives a beaten up Honda Civic. Andy sees the expensive car and pairs it to Dr. Purdy as an individual who is of high status and prestige who has no regard for others in the lower class, who may need to get to work responsibilities on time. Status which is a culturally defined position or social location plays a role as Andy assume the status of Dr. Purdy to be high and changes his perspective of how he views her. Title of physician is an achieved status as it is a social position that a person acquires through his or her efforts and choices.
- The little hesitations Dr. Purdy displayed was enough to anger Andy and as a result Andy decided to block Dr. Purdy from exiting the parking spot. Andy displays road rage at this point and angrily rolls down his window and begins to speak disrespectfully to Dr. Purdy while blocking her in.
- Hey old lady some of us actually have to work for a living! Why have you been taking your sweet @#$%&! time!
- Dr. Purdy tries to speak calmly to Andy in their social interaction and asks him to move his car so they can both get to their commitments on time. Andy reacts in an angered manner in their face-to-face interaction and drives away to find another spot. This demonstrates how human behaviour is patterned as we see how intrusions often annoy individuals and how status can play a major role on how some are perceived.
- It's too late to sing 'kumbaya' and figure this out peacefully. I'm already late for my job lady!!!
- Sir if you could please just remove your car, then we both can be on our way.
