- Spartacus
- Spartacus was a Roman slave called a gladiator, trained to fight to the death. He led the Servile War against the Romans for two years. Then in 71 BC Marcus Licinius Crassus, a rich and powerful Roman and his Roman army defeated them and hung them along Appian Way. It was the last large revolt of Roman slaves.
- The First Triumvirate
- The First Triumvirate was a ruling body of three men, Marcus Licinius Crassus, Pompey the Great, and Julius Caesar. Crassus was a consul and censor of the Roman Senate. Pompey was also a consul. Instead of Crassus and Pompey fighting for power, now they worked with Caesar to rule Rome together.
- Caesar was a powerful ruler. He had many battle vict6ories in Gaul and across Europe. The senate would not let him 'cross the Rubicon' and return to Rome with his army. because they were afraid of him. Crassus had died in 53BC and Pompey fled to Egypt so Caesar had sole power. He made many improvements in Rome and wrote about his experiences. Then he went to Egypt and fell in love with Cleopatra. They had a son named Caesarion and ruled together for awhile.
