- Montresor leads Fortunato down into the catacombs beneath his home. Fortunato, still intoxicated, is unsuspecting of Montresor's foul plan.
- Montresor quickly pushes Fortunato and chains him to the wall. He implores Fortunato to leave but as he is chained to the wall, he cannot.
- HA. A very good joke, we laugh about it once we get back.
- Montresor, skilled in masonry, starts building a brick wall in front of Fortunato. Fortunato is still very drunk and confused, he does not know what is happening so he continues to focus on the Amontillado.
- Yes, let's go.
- Let's go.
- Fortunato begins to sober up and understand, he starts to struggle against his chains. Montresor just smiles and continues building the brick wall.
- Fortunato begins to go crazy. Montresor just goes along with what Fortunato says while he builds the brick wall.
- Montresor just agrees with Fortunato and holds a conversation with him until he is finished with the wall. In his mind he knows the truth but he never voices it.
