- Hi. I'm Jack, and here on this fief, I serve as a serf. I work on my lord's estate, and I have the harsh job of harvesting crops. I am self efficient though, so I do not need help from the uncaring vassal, or lord, above me.
- My community is very close. We all live in one- room huts and have the same amounts and type of land. We eat very simple foods, like vegetables, and getting meat is a life or death risk.

- All above me in this non- justifying class system are knights, vassals, and lords. Knights protect all of the fiefs and land for the top lord, and the top lord has power over my lord, also known as a vassal. My vassal is careless, but he does protect us if we supply him with goods.

- See this beauty? Guess what? I got to clean the edges around it! That was a great day. On a regular day, I work in fields with my family all day long, and I eat really boring things like peas.
- This is my family and all the animals we take care of! We live in this hut with the single fire table. The animals like to sleep by the door, while we sleep by the fire.
- That is the Feudal System!
- A lord rules large areas of land, and to protect his land from invasion, the lord gives parts of it to local lords called vassals. In return, the vassals promise to defend the king's land. In the lands given to vassals, called fiefs, servants like Jack work and know no other life.
