- There had once been prisoners in a cave since they were born. They were locked and chained in the cave and had never seen daylight. The only light they could see was the small fire behind them that would cast shadows of objects.
- Hey bro. So like we basically just wanna tell you...your entire life is a fat lie.
- A few of the men enjoy putting objects in front of the fire and casting shadows. Some of them enjoy it and it sparks conversation.
- Let's head out and venture into the world.
- Eh..nah I'm good. Im gonna' chill here.
- Do NOT tell me no. Let's go. I'm going to count to 3.
- The men have never been outside before so all they know are shadows. They even come up with names for each of the shadows they see. Whenever a prisoner makes a noise, they think it's coming from the shadow.
- AHHHHH!! This is killing my eyes!!!
- ahhhh! The beautiful outdoors. What could be better?
- They explain to the prisoner that the shadows are fake and that he's been lied to his entire life. The prisoner does not believe them.
- WHAT?! nooo that's a lie!
- The men force the prisoner to go outside to show that the shadows are fake. They explain that the 'shadows' are much more clear outside the cave. The prisoner has gotten so used to this environment, he doesn't feel inclined to go.
- Once the prisoner is outside he finds the new environment very disorienting. He had trouble grasping that what was around him was real and the shadows were just a reflection. Gradually, his eyes adjust until he can see reflections in the water and eventually look at the sun. The prisoner then returns to the cave to try and share his knowledge of everything he has seen, but his knowledge was rejected.
