- Exposition. The narrator of this story is Montresor. He wants revenge brought onto Fortunato He is going to lure him into his home and murder him.
- Climax
- The narrator has resentment towards Fortunato's family. He has that resentment because his family is in the shadows of Fortunato's family. So he wants revenge on him.
- Falling action
- The narrator found Fortunato. He invited Fortunato over to his for some Amontillado. But he really doesn't have any Amontillado.
- Resolution
- Montresor takes Fortunato down to the catacombs. The keep walking further into the catacombs. Fortunato keeps pulling Montresor further into the catacombs.
- After awhile Montresor gives him a drink to make him less sober. Then after a little bit longer, Fortunato starts to ask where is the Amontillado. Montresor starts pulling Fortunato further into the catacombs.
- After a bit of Montresor pulls him further. Then Montresor exposes Fortunato to Nitrite. Fortunato dies of the Nitrite. Montresor ties him up and encloses him, then he throws a torch over to make sure he is dead.
