- When the train finally stopped, we arrived at an old building with a couple of women waiting outside for us. I didn't know it then but we had arrived at a Catholic boarding school made specifically for us Native children and those women who were waiting outside for us were going to be our new so called teachers.
- When we went inside there were other Native children kneeling by their beds wearing European clothing. Before I knew it I would be forced to dress like them too. The teachers had actually taken away my traditional dress and even opened my braids.
- This is your new clothes.
- And then what hurt me the most... they cut my warrior hair.
- I tried to stop her by screaming and kicking, but she would beat me.
- The next few weeks would be absolute hell. We were not allowed to speak our own language, only English.

- We were given new names and were forced to become Christian.

- We had to pray strictly on command. Somedays we prayed for hours. If we did not follow the rules or any instruction, we would be in serious trouble.
