- Robert Hooke was an English scientist who was born from 1635-1703. He was the person who coined the term "cell" and was also the first person to visualize a microscope. He wanted to see the cells because "cells are the basic unit of structure and function."
- Robert Brown was a Scottish scientist who was born from 1773-1858. He made important contributions to botany as well as discovered and described the nucleus of a cell.
- Mattias Schleiden was a German scientist who was born from 1804-1881. He recognized the importance of cell membranes and was one of the co-founders of the cell theory. He determined that all plants are made of cells.
- Theodor Schwann was a German scientist who was born from 1810-1882. He was the scientist who considered that all animals are made of cells. He was the founder of cell theory. Since he was the founder of cell theory, he must've known that "all organisms are made up of one or more cells."
- Rudolf Virchow was a Prussian scientist who was born from 1821-1902. His work made it more clear that diseases are found at the cellular level. He was also the founder of cellular pathology and invented the modern form of autopsy. He discovered that "cells come from preexisting cells."
