- The characters in " the wise old women " retold by Yoshiko Uchida are the old women the farmer who is the son of the old women and the ruler/lord of their village . This takes place in Japan in the past .
- CLIMAX
- First the ruler declares that all old men and women need to be brought to the mountains. Second the farmer is worried because his mother is getting older and he cant bring her to the mountains e doesnt want to lose her .
- FALLING ACTION
- The problem is he brings his mother to the mountains but he cant leave her resulting in him bringing her back to his village to his home .
- RESOLUTION
- He hides his mother in his house which is extremely dangerous and risky because if the ruler find out he will punish them both.
- The ruler claims if the village can manage to make what he says he will spare them . He demands a rope made of ash then a single strand of silk to weave through a log that bends and curves lastly a drum that beats with some one beating it . The farmer panicks and asks his mother while his mother gives him the answer of how to fullfill the kings demands .
- The farmer tells the ruler he was hiding his mother and that she was the smart one who came up with all of the solutions . The ruler realized he was wrong all along and he lets all old people live in that village.
