  • Are you Cesario? “She returns this ring to you, sir.” (2.2.5)

  • Antonio has saved Sebastian from the shipwreck. Sebastian believes her twin sister, Viola, has drowned. Sebastian and Antonio both talk to each other.

  • Sebastian refuses Antonio's request to be his servant. Sebastian then heads to Orsino's court. Antonio ignores Sebastian's answer and decides to go to the court anyways despite having enemies there.

  • “My masters, are you mad?” (2.3.87) All of thou art making such noise at this time of night? Buffoons! I must report this to my lady.
  • Malvolio hands Cesario, who is Viola in disguise, a ring. The ring is provided by Olivia, who lied that it is Cesario's ring. Viola figures out that Olivia has fallen in love with her disguise as Cesario and worries about how it can cause problems.
  • Scene 3
  • "'Twere as good a deed as to drink when a man’s ahungry, to challenge him the field, and then to break promise with him and make a fool of him" (2.3.125-128)
  • No, no, that is not good enough. “I can write very like my lady.” (2.3.160) Malvolio wants her love, and I can write such a letter that’ll trick thee!
  • Sir Toby, Sir Andrew, and Feste are singing and making noises at night. Maria comes and warns them about Malvolio coming.
  • Malvolio enters the scene and scolds them for making such noises. He then states that he will report this to Olivia.
  • The group decides to trick Malvolio. Maria suggests that she can make a fake love letter in Olivia's handwriting for Malvolio.
