- Brian has just caught his first fish, excited and joyful. The bear, cub, and wolf are visible in the background as reference to their appearance in the chapter as well.
- Chapter 17
- The skunk is spraying Brian and eating the turtle eggs, the main problem of this Chapter. As described, Brian panics and runs out of the shelter to the lake.
- Chapter 18
- Brian cooks his first foolbird. After figuring out how to prop the bird up on sticks and use a pronged stick to turn it, he successfully finishes and eats the bird.
- Chapter 19
- An angry moose tramples Brian as he goes to wash off his hands in the lake. Surprised, he releases his bird, bow, arrows, and spear, and they are all tossed aside and into the water as well.
- After making his way over to the plane and reclaiming his lost hatchet, Brian slices through the plane and searches for the emergency survival kit. After rummaging around within the water, Brian finally grasps the bag and pulls it out, slowly paddling back to shore on his log raft.
- A passing fur buyer catches Brian's accidentally-set-off emergency signal and lands his bushplane on the lake just outside Brian's shelter. Brian, shocked, with his drink still in his hand and his food cooking in front of him, stares at the pilot as he approaches him. After telling the pilot his name, he is promptly saved and taken back to New York.
