These thoughts came to the Japanese people one day. Japan wanted to gain a lot of strength , power, influence, and to feel like the whole world was at their feet. Korea was the perfect place to start...
- Character introductionMin Ji
- Min Ji, a 17-year-old Korean teen, could not have a simple life, as it seems. She was a girl who had to deal with a lot of problems during imperialism. During these harsh years of imperialization, she experienced many changes in her life. Her initial identity, appearance, attitude, viewpoint, belief, and perspective were all erased once she was imperialized. Any time she gets hurt, she becomes stronger and stronger. Not in her physical strength, but the strength she holds in her heart.

- It's time for Mrs. Messina's English class! We will learn about Korean Imperialism by reading a short story about a teenager girl who faced Korean Imperialism. After the reading, students will understand how Korean Imperialism affected this lady and others around her.
- This introduction tells us more about the history of imperialism in Korea. Students will realize while reading it that Japan is the reason for Korean imperialism to start. In addition, the introduction gives more information about the plot of the story that we will hear next.
- The character could be confusing to the students because how could this one young girl have so many problems in her life. They don't sure why her previous identity was erased, but they will understand later how the imperialism impacted her so much.
