- In 1858, India became controlled by Britain. Britain conquest slowly evolved when local authorities and European traders unmade and made a lot of alliances. India was really easy to take over because were separated territories and they also had no political unity. They gained control over Southern India, Northern India, and Bangladesh.
- The British East India company operated in India with no regulation with the British Government. They had their own army and British soldiers would lead the army, the Indians would join the British army, but in doing so they would have to go against their own religion.
- Around 1850 most Indians resented the fact that Great Britain owned their country. The Indians were not happy that Britain controlled all the useful land in their country. They would even control racism, and forced the change in their religious beliefs.
- Hindus cannot eat beef and Muslims can not eat pork because of their religion.
- In 1857, gossip was spread amongst the Sepoys. The seals of the bullets had to be bit off. The believed that the ammunition had to be dipped in beef and pork fat.
- In 1858 the Industrial Revolution turned India into a major supplier of raw materials. This would all go to Great Britain. 300 million Indians were a huge market for British products. In 1914 World War 1 began and Great Britain got 1 million Indians to enlist in the British Army to fight
- Indian troops were finally treated as second class citizens in 1919 by the British. The Indians committed acts of violence against the British. As a response, Great Britain responded by passing the Rowlett law.
