- Chapter 8: Yanek has heard that people were getting gassed in the trucks, and turning their bodies into soap. Yanek made a fateful decision of going to his friend's house and then back home. What he didn't know was that the nazis were where he lived, he hid from them in the shadows luckily not catching him. But when he looked at the people coming out he saw his mother and father. He believed it was two similar people, but it was his mother and father being deported.
- Chapter 10: Yanek was assigned a job to make barracks for jews, truckloads of people coming in. So he would have to be around Amon Goeth all day, but Uncle Moshe used his rations to move Yanek to a new job outside of the camp. When Yanek got there he was assigned to clean out the building his family lived in. He went to the pigeon coup where his family lived. He looked in the coat to find 1000 zloty, and then 2000 zloty, he took it back to the camp so him and Moshe could get some good food.
- Chapter 13: Yanek is loaded into a truck to be transported somewhere else. He becomes skeptical if they're going to get shot, or going somewhere else to work. He makes it to the place, it was a mine. When he got there he joined other prisoners and looked and saw one that looked familiar. He got to "tour" the salt mine and assigned the place he will be working at. Other prisoners question the familiar man. He was a Judenrat at the Krakow ghetto. He was ganged up on and killed and rubbed with salt.
