  • Daisy kissing Gatsby
  • Daisy's child
  • Going into the city
  • Daisy, Gatsby, Nick, Jordan, and Tom are all having lunch at the Buchanan’s. While all five are at the Buchanans' house, Tom leaves the room to speak with his mistress on the phone. While Tom walks away Daisy boldly kisses Gatsby saying that she loves him. Daisy also does this in front of Nick and Jordan.
  • Tom and Gatsby's fight
  • Daisy’s child makes an appearance in this chapter and her name is Pammy. When Pammy comes she is with her nurse/nanny and then runs into her mother’s arms shyly. Everyone is happy to see, but realization hits Gatsby with Nick saying, “I don’t think he had really believed in its existence before” (Fitzgerald 117). This adds conflict because Gatsby wants Daisy to leave Tom, but that will be hard to do because Tom and Daisy have a kid together. And Daisy is still a mother and she will not let go of her child easily.
  • Daisy killing Myrtle
  • The day is hot and all 5 of them are just hanging around the Buchanan’s house. Until Daisy says, “But it”s so hot…Let’s all go to town” (Fitzgerald 118). Tom agrees and says to go but no one moves until Daisy starts speaking again. Before they get on the road though, Tom says to Gatsby that they should switch cars. With Gatsby driving the blue coupè and Tom drives Gatsby’s car. Also Tom wants Daisy to come with him but she says no, and tells him to take Nick and Jordan, she will ride with Gatsby.
  • Gatsby looking at the window
  • Tom confronts Gatsby about his love for Daisy. Gatsby, refusing to be intimidated, tells Tom "It was a terrible mistake, but in her heart she never loved any one except me" (Fitzgerald 130). Tom, in disbelief, turns to Daisy for confirmation. Daisy, however, cannot honestly admit she never loved Tom. Gatsby, somewhat shaken by the scene unfolding before him (his dream is falling apart) tries another approach. He declares: "Daisy's leaving you" (Fitzgerald 133). Tom assures him Daisy will never leave him for a bootlegger.
  • After the big fight at the hotel Tom tells Gatsby and Daisy to leave and they do. While driving back to Long Island, they go through the Valley of Ashes. Gatsby tells Nick, “ Well, first Daisy turned away…and then she lost her nerve and turned back…it must have killed her instantly” (Fitzgerald 143 and 144). So Daisy was driving the car that killed Myrtle and had complete control over her actions. And Gatsby made sure to leave before any cops showed up and started asking questions.
  • After the incident, Gastby drives the rest of the way home. He was still at Daisy’s house when Nick arrived an hour or two later. He told Nick that he was staying to make sure that Daisy was ok, and that if Tom tries to do something to Daisy then she will flick the light off and on again. So he has been staring at the window since Daisy went inside. After Nick checks on Daisy, he says he is heading home and Gatsby says he is going to wait a few more hours.
